Our consultations help parents learn about Occupational Therapy and see if it is a good fit for their child and family. The consultation will include your child’s first OT appointment so we can evaluate their strengths and challenge areas. Many of the children we see have difficulty with new experiences and transitions. Social stories are a common tool used in Occupational Therapy to help children feel more comfortable with new experiences.
We’ve written a social story about what will happen at their first OT appointment. It includes photos of our clinic, play gyms, toys, and tools. We encourage you to read it with them. Children often ask for the story many times and on many days. Just like re-reading a favorite book, re-reading the social story can bring comfort and add familiarity.
